Let’s talk!

GoodYarn community workshops

You don’t need to be an expert to talk about mental health!

We all have mental health, and by learning more about it, we can be better equipped to support the mental wellbeing of our family, friends and ourselves. The Southern Wellbeing Trust is partnering with a leading provider of mental health education to bring free workshops to Queenstown Lakes community members to help each other to look after our mental health.

The workshops cover:

  • what mental health is and how to look after it

  • how to talk to someone you are concerned about

  • signs and symptoms of mental stress and distress

  • where to go for support

Our facilitators are local people who live here, understand the unique challenges our community face, are passionate about mental wellbeing and speak your language! Our workshops are practical, interactive and enjoyable. To date 100% of local participants say they would recommend the workshop to others.

We will be delivering workshops regularly around the Queenstown area. Click the link below for our workshop schedule and for more information about specific upcoming workshops and how to book a place:

You don't need to bring or prepare anything to participate, just yourself. Morning tea will be provided.

The workshops are currently free of charge for individuals who are:

  • expecting a baby or new parents

  • Brazilian community members

  • Filipino community members

GoodYarn workshops are running under Alert Level 2. Workshops are held in person with extra measures in place to ensure your safety. Participants will be spaced 1 metre apart. Masks are not required while socially distanced, however if participants choose to wear one during the workshop that’s fine too.

We have several new workshop dates confirmed over the coming weeks. Please see our workshop and events page for more details on each workshop and how to book.

About the pilot project

The Southern Wellbeing Trust has partnered with the Good Programmes Trust to deliver the pilot project to help Queenstown Lakes community members to talk to each other about mental health.

The GoodYarn community pilot programme is being co-designed with Queenstown Lakes community partners so the that the award-winning, evidence-based mental health literacy programme - GoodYarn - can be shaped to support some of the Queenstown Lakes communities most impacted by COVID-19. GoodYarn is an established programme within the rural community and in larger corporate organisations throughout New Zealand and now we have a unique opportunity to offer the programme to our local communities.
