Introducing our new Headlight board members - Two new Trustees at Headlight

Our board of trustees was delighted to welcome two new trustees this March.

Dr Marion Poore is a public health physician, based in Arrowtown, who brings with her extensive experience in the public health sector. Marion trained as a GP early in her health career, and more recently has worked as a public health specialist, both at a national level supporting the COVID response, and regionally for Southern District Health Board, in the role of Medical Officer of Health from 2004 until May 2019. Marion says that she sees “strengthening the health and wellbeing of people through building resilience and increasing social connectedness, as an important way to support communities that are facing multiple challenges.”

Dr Poore is joined by Mel Wright. Mel Wright is involved in the local Queenstown community, actively holding space for and creating connections across many networks. She brings with her experience in her role as Coordinator of the KUMA Southern Māori business network, and as a Whānau Ora Navigator. Mel holds a level 6 diploma in Māori public health -  Mental Health and Addictions.  Mel is passionate about “supporting people in our district and sharing our vibrant community, and believes that everyone’s voice should be heard.” She believes that teaching our whanau skills to have peer to peer conversations are invaluable.

Mel and Marion join Jose Ganga (Board Chair), Nathan Keil, and Merle Grimmwood -Petterson on the board of Head Light Trust (operating as Headlight).

Speaking about their appointment Jose Ganga, Chair of the Board said, “It’s a privilege to welcome such experienced and skilled board members to our team. We’re delighted to have this opportunity to work together with Mel and Marion and our wider board, to come together and help ensure that the Headlight team is successful in improving mental wellbeing in our communities.”

Welcome to the board Mel and Marion! We are delighted to have you join us on this important journey to empower our communities to support their mental wellbeing.
