GoodYarn at Home: helping friends + families to talk about mental health
Living far away from friends and family can bring real challenges for migrant communities, especially when people need extra support.
The “GoodYarn at Home” initiative is a new approach to delivering mental health education in the community.
The workshop approach has been co-designed by our Filipino facilitators to support Filipino families and friends to gather, talk about mental health in a safe and comfortable environment, so they can learn how to support their wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around them.
The workshops are delivered in a mix of english and tagalog by trained Filipino facilitators.
Workshop topics include:
What is mental health?
What are the signs and symptoms of mental illness?
What do I say to someone who is strugglig?
What support is available locally?
The workshops are interactive, interesting and enjoyable - 100% of participants would recommend them! Workshops are free to attend and food and refreshments are also provided.
You don't need to be an expert to talk about mental health but by increasing our understanding of mental health, we can do more to help ourselves, our friends, family and community to stay mentally well and to thrive.
